CGAP Launches SmartAid 2009

In 2006, the heads of 29 major development institutions endorsed the creation of an index that would measure and rate the way microfinance funders work. The SmartAid for Microfinance Index is CGAP’s effort to fulfill that commitment.

NEWS AND EVENTS

Who is Funding Microfinance? Results of the First Global Survey:  The microfinance funding landscape has become increasingly diverse and complex and looks radically different today from even three years ago. To help make sense of the increasingly diverse and complex funding flows to microfinance and improve transparency, CGAP surveyed the microfinance portfolios of most significant donors and investors from April to August 2008. Global and Regional Snapshots that offer concise two-page presentations of the main survey results are now available.

Governments Give Credit:  Recent headlines show an increasing trend of government funding for retail microfinance. Where, how and why are governments getting so involved? A new CGAP study examines this phenomenon in the latest Microfinance Gateway Highlight, Governments Give Credit.

MIV Roundtable on Responsible Finance:  On June 19th 2008, CGAP organized a workshop aimed at improving the transparency of microfinance investment vehicles (MIVs) on the non-financial bottom lines.
